Why the Perforated toothbrush was made
I don’t want to get cavities. I don’t want to go to the dentist.
There are people who thought like that.
But there are many people have experienced cavities.
“It would be great if we could easily brush the behind the back teeth …”
We wanted to made a toothbrush meet the expectations of customers. This is the beginning of development.

Why it’s difficult to brush the back teeth?
The brush is so big?
We researched how a toothbrush moves inside the mouth to understand this problem.
Then this “The big curve haft” was made.
The brush can move freely inside the mouth, because of the big curve haft.
So that, it is now able to smoothly brush the back teeth.
Brush teeth with a clean toothbrush
It is not known but there is a lot of bacteria present on the toothbrush.
There are as many as toilet bowls,
It is important to keep them dry to prevent the growth of bacteria.
When considering drying, we researched where is the most place is hard to dry out. It was in the middle.
So, By creating a hole in the most difficult-to-dry area, we have allowed air circulation and enhanced drying.
The hole opened in the center promotes the drying of the brush, it to be maintained in a clean state.
“Brush thoroughly” is
“Hold the toothbrush horoughly”
While researching how a toothbrush moves inside the mouth, we discovered that ease of grip and ease of brushing are directly proportional.
Therefore, when we aimed to brush thoroughly even the back teeth of the molars, we realized the need for a grip that is more comfortable and easy to hold than ever before.
After testing numerous prototypes, we arrived at an unusually thick grip for the toothbrush.
This draws heavily on the techniques and experience we’ve cultivated through brushes other than toothbrushes.
By making further indentations, the shape has evolved to be more comfortable to hold.
A new sensation of teeth being enveloped
There is a hole in the middle of the brush,
The bristles are planted in a doughnut shape.
As a result, during brushing, the brush naturally envelops the teeth, making it easier for the bristles to enter the spaces between teeth and the periodontal pocket.
The toothbrush has been developed to thoroughly clean even the areas that are more susceptible to cavities.
You might think that “Having a hole in the center would affect the toothbrush’s functionality”, but rest assured.
The number of bristle tufts is 35, which is more than a regular toothbrush. Since there are no bristles in the center, it also makes it easier to remove food particles adhered to the brush.

While there are many toothbrushes available in the market, I hadn’t come across one that could effectively clean even the back of the back teeth and was easy to use.
That’s why we developed this toothbrush, thinking ‘If that’s the case!’.
We developed it with a strong focused on ease of grip, ease of use, and storage.
As a result, we received the Good Design Award in 2021, and, praised for such attributes that,
“Distinguishing itself from the occasional “functional style” or simplified designs, it offers a strong presence with enhanced practical functionality, which is commendable.”

Dedication to Product Development
I don’t want any cavities.
I don’t want to go to the dentist.
There are likely many people who have developed cavities even though they thought otherwise.
I am also one of those people.
The tension of sitting in the chair at the dentist. The sound of a machine grinding teeth. And intense pain.
“I never want to have a cavity again!” I genuinely feel this from the bottom of my heart.
Despite that, sadly, my back tooth developed a cavity.
I brush my teeth every day, but why do I get cavities?
Just when I was wondering why I was getting cavities,
I was consulted “Mr. Sakabe, can you develop a toothbrush that makes it easy to brush the backside of the back teeth?”
I suppose moments like these are called “luck” or “fortunate timing.”
We have decided to collaborate on the development of a toothbrush.
While developing the toothbrush, we conducted an investigation into areas prone to cavities.
Since we also have qualified dental hygienists within the company, we compiled opinions from numerous dental hygienists, and as a result,
・The backside of the back teeth
・between the gap of teeth
・The border between teeth and gums (the periodontal pocket)
We determined that these 3 areas are where many people are prone to developing cavities.
In addition, there was an opinion that a significant number of people are unable to keep their toothbrushes clean and properly stored.
This is because toothbrushes contain a lot of bacteria, and it is very important to store them dry to prevent the growth of bacteria.
Do not leave food debris or other debris on your toothbrush.
for that,
・Toothbrush that dries easily
we wanted to imbue it with a unique value that isn’t commonly found in the market.
However, while it would be wonderful to achieve all these four points, creating such a magical product won’t happen immediately.
Therefore, after conducting individual validations for each point, we concluded that a toothbrush that is easy to brush even the “backside of the back teeth” and “dries easily” would be the chosen development concept.
